A must see if you like costume comedy dramas. If you like this you'll like Richard Lester's 1973 remake of The Three Musketeers with Michael York and a great cast.
Honorable mention: Joan Greenwood, loved her in Kind Hearts and Coronets and The Man in the White Suit.
25: Tom Jones and Sophie, and others chase a deer and catch it. Sophie's horse runs off and Tom saves her. He fakes injury and gets her to comfort him. The romance begins. The birth of something new.
45: Sophie's parents decide Sophie should marry an unloving man. Sophie is aware of their plans for her and she's devastated. She loves Tom Jones, a man thought of as a bastard. Now that I'm aware.
60: Jones dines at an Inn where Sophie's honor is insulted by a soldier. Jones challenges the soldier and is struck on the head. Jones is pronounced dead. Our fears about Tom's fate soften when voiceover tells us "No man dies for love except for on the stage." There's no going back now.
-45: Lady Bellaston, Sophie, and Tom Jones confer and intrigue escalates. The Lady tries to marry Sophie off to an unattractive suiter. The Lady visits Tom, who skillfully directs another woman with a message from Sophie out of the room. Tom reads Sophie's message. Sophie doesn't want Tom to visit her and asks for his patience. Discovery.
-25: The famous dinner scene between Tom and Joyce Redman who plays Jenny Jones. They seductively eat lobster, chicken, oysters, fruit, and after a drink it's off to the bedroom and the extinguishing of a candle - all without dialogue. Eventually, all is amicably resolved with Tom reuniting with Sophie. The final turning point.
